Witnessing developments like no other

A comparative analysis of the level of urbanization of different parts of the district of Ernakulam has thrown up interesting results. To measure the level of urbanization the following formula was used: Level of urbanization = A/P

Here ‘A’ stands for proportion of urban population to total population and ‘P’ for proportion of the urban population to the state as a whole.

When analyzing the developments in Ernakulam district in its entirety, the level of urbanization has more than doubled between 1981 and 1991. Thus, there was a steep increase in the level of urbanization in the district with respect to that of the developments in other parts of India.

Computation of the level of urbanization in different parts of the district reveals that the degree of urbanization is highest in the eastern part of the district. The southern, northern and western parts of the district take the second, third and fourth place respectively. Though there has been a decline in the proportion of the urban population in all other districts in Kerala, during the decade 1981-91 the level of urbanization showed an increase in Ernakulam district in particular.

Obviously, the degree of urbanization in a given state can vary intently according to the absolute number of people living in urban centers. It does not refer to absolute urban members. In Kerala, the most urbanized cities are Cochin, Kozhikode and Trivandrum. In these three cities, property prices are always on the higher side.

When considering the recent developments in Real Estate Ernakulam district has witnessed major developments unseen in any other part of the state. Perhaps you can see such a massive urbanization process, which has taken an entire area by storm in no other part of Kerala state.
